FORM-FINDING

The process of form-finding takes an important role in my work. The direction is uncertain at the beginning and it is still unclear where the journey goes. It is like an inner search whose goal is to discover something new, something of its own. Sometimes it starts with a vague idea, an unclear image, which changes with the process. Through the learned craft, this image often manifests itself early in a particular material.

DEMATERIALIZATION

In stone sculpting, the raw block of stone stands at the beginning.

After the first few days of work, gradually something alive, moving can be seen. The further the work approaches completion, the lighter the form becomes. This process of taking away I see emblematic of the 3 aggregate states of water.

The massive block of ice - the liquid water - the weightless steam.

Water shapes the form of the rocks for millions of years. When hiking through mountains and caves this can be seen in the most different forms. Seen in this way, I do not do much different than nature, in a condensed period of time, adapted to the human time span. Perhaps also to a lesser extent.

FRAGILITY

What does it mean when we are near something fragile? How do we perceive it? With the awareness of the fragile, our behavior towards the object changes. We pay more attention. This principle can be applied to people and the environment. Fragility means impermanence. To pay attention to these weaknesses also means to perceive them as qualities and to sharpen our own attentiveness.
